The Collaboration Journey
Daven & Yael
Yael and I began our collaboration in 2021. We had never met in person, but I’d admired her work for over 25 years. I read her books to my children when they were little.
We had an immediate synergy that has only expanded over this creation journey.
About halfway through this project, I left my home of 27 years in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with a one-way ticket to the UK, off to explore a calling to Scotland and beyond.
I wrote and edited on trains, in cafés and on benches looking out at the North sea, not to mention countless Airbnb’s and a few housesits with various cats on my lap.
I was inspired by the majesty of new landscapes, by my freedom and by my challenges. I found spiritual truths, and practiced living them, over and over again.
Through it all, Yael and I have engaged in a constant exchange of words and images, blending our experiences as women encountering nature, motherhood, grief, the body, personal expression and power. We have inspired and pushed each other to be true to the spirit of the yin. We've shared photos of mushrooms, plants, and birds we've seen in fields, forests, and cities; views from New York state mountains and the Scottish coast; snapshots of street art, old masters and radical women artists; all in an ongoing conversation about nature, art, and life.
But above all, we have been a mirror of feminine wildness and power to each other. This is reflected in every aspect of this deck.
I am so humbly grateful to have been able to co-create this deck with Yael.
